How We Independently Verify RTP on Duel.com
Duel.com describes itself as "the first casino that gives a fuck" and commits to "exceptional transparency." We take that commitment seriously โ by independently measuring observed Return to Player rates from publicly available data and comparing them to published theoretical values.
This article explains our methodology, what the confidence levels mean, and the limitations of our approach.
Data Source
Duel.com displays a public live bet feed on its casino page, visible to all visitors without authentication or account creation. This feed shows real betting activity in real time โ game type, outcome multiplier, and result.
We observe and aggregate this publicly displayed data. We do not collect personal user data, account information, or private betting history. We do not access any non-public API or circumvent any access controls. Our analysis is based entirely on information that Duel voluntarily displays to every visitor.
What We Measure
For each game, we calculate the observed RTP (Return to Player):
RTP = (Total Returns รท Total Wagers) ร 100%A game with 97% RTP returns $97 for every $100 wagered over time. The remaining $3 is the house edge. We track this ratio across thousands of observed outcomes to see whether the real-world results align with theoretical expectations.
Statistical Confidence
Not all RTP measurements are equally reliable. A game observed over just a few rounds will show wildly different numbers than one observed over tens of thousands. We categorize our measurements by statistical confidence:
The required sample size varies by game. Low-variance games like Dice converge quickly โ their outcomes cluster tightly around the expected value. High-variance slots from providers like Hacksaw Gaming or Nolimit City require significantly more observations because a single bonus round can produce 5,000x+ payouts, creating large short-term deviations.
Variance and Why It Matters
Short-term RTP can deviate significantly from theoretical values. A slot with 96% theoretical RTP might show 80% or 130% over a short observation period. This is normal mathematical variance, not manipulation.
The law of large numbers guarantees that observed RTP converges to the theoretical value as sample size increases โ but convergence can be slow for high-variance games. This is why we display confidence levels rather than presenting every measurement as equally reliable.
Duel Originals vs Third-Party Slots
Duel Originals (Dice, Crash, Plinko, Mines, Keno, Blackjack) are provably fair. Each bet produces a cryptographic proof that players can independently verify using our seed checker. The house edge is published and mathematically fixed.
Third-party slots (from providers like Pragmatic Play, Hacksaw Gaming, NetEnt, etc.) use the provider's own Random Number Generator. Neither Duel nor players can manipulate these outcomes โ the provider controls the RNG, and the casino simply hosts the game. Our observations measure aggregate outcomes as experienced by players on the Duel platform.
Limitations
- Our data represents a sample of betting activity, not the complete picture. Observed RTP may differ from true RTP, especially for games with low observation counts.
- We observe outcomes, not internal RNG state. We cannot determine whether a specific outcome was "fair" โ only whether aggregate results align with published probabilities.
- Short observation periods have wider confidence intervals. A game showing 120% RTP over 50 rounds does not mean the house edge is negative โ it means variance is dominating the signal.
- Currency denomination differences may introduce minor rounding in aggregate calculations.
